Description

Last weekend, I went to Tiong Bahru market with Edwin Koo and some friends from college to do photography workshop. I was expecting that this wet market would be definitely as "wet" as the market in my hometown. In fact, no. I was 8 am in Sunday morning, where the market had its peak hour. I was thankful that I am an early riser. After 15 minutes sitting in the bus, finally we reach Tiong Bahru market. While waiting for Edwin, we had our breakfast on the 2nd storey. Not much Halal food there, only nasi lemak and friends. I was craving for some Chinese noodle, but unfortunately it's not halal. Meh! I ended up eat nothing and had stomachache.

About 20 minutes, Edwin came ans gave a brief introduction. Speaking the truth, this is my first time touching a documentary photography. I am kind of photographer who as much as possible avoid the presence of human being inside my shoot. I like animal and plants and nature, I don't like human at all. But that day I had to get through that barrier within me and my camera. I can be counted as newbie in dSLR, even thought I have already befriended with photography since 3 to 4 years ago.

As soon as Edwin said to start our exploration, I followed one of my friends, didn't know what to do, who to approach, etc. She was also newbie in dSLR and photography, but then she started making a shoot in vegetable stall. I kind of imagine that it would be nice to create some frame of hanging vegetables inside my shoot with the seller in the center. So I managed to shoot this auntie. She was kind of busy with his customers, and it was quite hard at first for me to shoot this "hidden" auntie while trying not to block the customers who wanted to do transactions. When I asked, "auntie, can I take a picture of you?" she replied with "can lah. But don't just take picture. Buy some vegetables also." I was giggling and took one pack of red chili to buy (I was looking for chili to eat spicy noodle here).

I like her expression towards me. She was smiling so cheerfully, as if she enjoyed all her weekend inside the stall.
